Go Forth! - Catholic Men's Conference of 2018

by Jeremy Lezniak

We men have a great need to encounter, and reencounter, the saving person of Jesus Christ. Men have a need to grow in fraternal fellowship with Christ, and each other, through our Christian manhood and conversion.  Doing so, we cooperate with the Holy Spirit in our sharpening of each other, fraternally training each other within the virtues, continuing and ever making anew that vital desire to be the men God created us to be.  Having that God-gifted desire to realize our final end is, in part, the impelling desire to fight the good fight.  That basic desire to pick ourselves off the floor of the battlefield, along with our fraternal soldiers, and continue to march evermore toward our eternal goal.

This, my friends, is what the Catholic Men's Conference of Wichita is all about.  In fact, I just expressed to you our vision statement - the core reason the conference exists at all.  And come Saturday, February 17th (8:00am - 5:00pm), we will embark on our eighth iteration of the annually held Catholic Men's Conference, taking place this time at Kapaun Mt. Carmel Catholic High School. The conference was put together through the collaborated efforts of the Knights of Columbus (council 4118), the Office of Marriage and Family Life, and Kapaun's Men; we believe we have a great speaker lineup. Our keynote speaker will be none-other than Deacon Harold Burke-Sivers, who is a remarkable speaker and evangelizer of the faith.  Podcasters, Adam Minihan and David Niles, from The Catholic Man Show, will also give a talk.  Lay author and Catholic leader, Jim Beckman, will act as M.C. for the conference, and will give a talk withal.  And, finally, our own Bishop Kemme will be celebrating Mass at the conclusion of the conference.

Deacon Harold, on Friday, February 16th (6:30pm - 8:30pm, the evening before the Catholic Men's Conference) will be giving a talk, which will be open to EVERYONE; his talk will also be held at Kapaun Mt. Carmel CHS. The suggested donation for Friday's talk is $10.  The Catholic Men's Conference, held on Saturday, has a suggested donation of $30.  Any man who signs-up for Saturday's conference will additionally have access to Friday evening's talk (i.e., no need to donate an additional $10).

Also, this year's conference-theme is "Go Forth!"  These words are often spoken at the conclusion of Mass, commissioning us to go out and make disciples of all those we encounter in the world.  This phrase is a phrase of action, compelling us not to act as passive wait-and-see witnesses. Often we as men are lukewarm evangelists, waiting on the sideline for the most convenient time to enter the game - sometimes never entering the game at all. This year's theme prepares us to go forth as bolder participants with the Holy Spirit, seeking to win souls for the Kingdom of God.

Again, everyone is invited to come to Kapaun to hear Deacon Harold talk on Friday.  And men, mark your calendars to attend Saturday's conference, it will be a great way to spend your Saturday.
